4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS
Featuring: visit of Lake Trasimeno and wine tasting in a castle
October 22nd, 2016 sailing on the Costa Pacifica from Civitavecchia
DAY 1 I ROME AIRPORT I MONTEPULCIANO HOTEL
Upon your arrival you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel in Montepulciano. Famous for its violetscented, orange-speckled "Vino Nobile di Montepulciano", this picturesque perfect small town beauty is not to be found only at the bottom of a glass. Noble palaces, proud medieval gateways, and a jumble of enticing alleyways spread out below airy Piazza Grande at the very top of the town, and views over the surrounding hills and valleys are as intoxicating as the wine.

DAY 2 I MONTEPULCIANO I MONTALCINO I PIENZA I MONTEPULCIANO
Today experience the quintessential views of the Tuscan countryside filled with vineyards, orchards and olive groves: the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Journey to the medieval towns of Montalcino and Montepulciano where you will taste the famous local wines of “Nobile of Montepulciano” and “Brunello of Montalcino”. After a wine tasting session followed by light lunch at a local winery, spend the afternoon discovering the town of Pienza. Once a sleepy medieval hilltown, this lovely town and UNESCO World Heritage Site was transformed into what was to be Pope Pius II's idea of the ideal Renaissance city in the 15th century. (B, L)

DAY 3 I MONTEPULCIANO I LAKE TRASIMENO I MONTEPULCIANO
Today's excursion will take you to the neighboring region of Umbria. After driving Through the serene Tuscan and Umbrian countryside, we will be arriving by the shores of Lake Trasimeno. Fourth largest lake in Italy, lake Trasimeno is surrounded by hills and numerous medieval villages, among which are Castiglione del Lago, Passignano sul Trasimeno, San Feliciano and many others. The lake contains three islands: l’Isola Maggiore, the only inhabited island, which was a sentimental place for St. Francis; l’Isola Polvese, the biggest island; and l’Isola Minore, private and not available to visit. Continue to the Magione Castle, presently the private residence of the Prince and Grand Master of Sovereign Military Order of Knights of Malta. Here a wine expert will explain the vinification process that takes place at the castle. The tour will end with a delicious tasting of the varieties of wines produced at the castle accompanied by local delicacies. (B)
